An essential component in Ocean Observing Services are subsurface moorings which have no surface expression because of sea-ice cover, harsh sea conditions or maritime traffic, prohibiting real time data delivery. Acoustic data telemetry between gliders and moorings was tested in Fram Strait during the FP7-ACOBAR [1], so far no sustained activity or expertise in using gliders as data messengers has been developed, nor commercialised. In this area, Bioglider’s aim is develop a state-of-the-art, integrated solution in order to widely apply this valuable capability.
